Julia is so excited to be THREE years old! She has been anticipating this birthday for several months, and would often say, "It's a long time for me to be three." Now, when speaking about things in the past few months, she will refer say, "It was a long time ago, when I was two years old." Also, since I put away most of her summer wardrobe, bought her new panties, and socks, she often wants to confirm what she is about to wear is a "3-year old..."
She is such a joy to us each day, and has been out of the "terrible" part of the twos for about 6 months. She is generally pleasant and cooperative, although still has her moments of defiance.
She adores Colin and loves being a big sister. She is very helpful with him, and now that he is crawling some she is watchful in making sure he doesn't put anything in his mouth that he shouldn't.
She is definitely a rule follower. Although we took the front side of her crib off months ago, she has never attempted getting out of bed without permission.
She also has significant self-control, along with being a rule follower. As an example, if we say she can have some bread after eating a certain amount of her dinner, she will sometimes ask for the "reward" to be put on her plate, but she won't touch it until she has held up her part of the deal.
She has quiet time each day from about 2:30-4:30, where she is allowed to take 3 books into bed with her and has to be quiet for 2 hrs. About 50% of the time she will fall asleep, in which case we let her sleep til 5pm.
At night she usually sleeps from 8:30pm-7:30am, and hardly ever wakes during the night. If she does, it is to go to the bathroom.
Her weekly activities include: church on Sunday, church on Tuesday nights (while we have our small group Bible study), Gymnastics on Wednesdays, Awanas on Thursdays, and preschool on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On the "off" days, we typically play at home or at the park, and sometimes get together with friends. We stay busy!
